  1. A dear friend of mine sent me a comment in email rather than replying here. I have the utmost respect for her and for the view point that she shared, and I feel it is important for others to read so I am posting here.

“I am astounded that this comment came from a pope who is supposed to be close to his people. But I would suggest to you to not paint all Christians with the same broad brush.

The statement you referenced was specifically made by Pope Francis. I know with 100% certainty this is not a “Christian” requirement. I also suspect that there are many Catholics in the world who also take offense to his comments. I’m not a Catholic so I can’t say for sure, but if I were a betting girl, I’d put money down.

There are Christians out there (many of us) who don’t subscribe to Pope Francis’s sentiments. I will be sitting in my pew on Sunday, but rest assured I would never be judging you, and I certainly do not believe that what Pope Francis said was neither appropriate nor accurate.”
